The Fanatic - oil on canvas 16 x 20
A portrayal of the closed-minded, single-purposed person. Bolted together, his head has little chance of accepting new ideas. But divine angels offer hope with a large wrench, which may help loosen the bolts. Riding his single-wheeled and single-purpose unicycle on a tightwire, the Fanatic is convinced he can build a house with just a hammer, but since this will take some time he brings along a lunch. Across the River of Emotions lies the goal, a Golden City. An impish Baby Time may cut the tightwire at any moment, so the Fanatic must not tarry. A tattered Flag of Truth (Veritas in Latin) inspires the Fanatic, and there is also a discarded carnivorous jawbone from the last successful Fanatic on the far side of the river. Single-mindedness resembles a fish drawn in a tight bow. A saber-toothed white kitten follows the Fanatic on the tightwire, an ancient living reminder of the feminine psyche - a good luck charm.
